Seven Cambodians Workers Under Quarantine Died from Drinking Sanitizing Alcohol

Banteay Meanchey: Seven out of 25 migrant workers died from drinking sanitizing alcohol while in quarantine at Koub Thom Centre in Poipet city. They mixed the alcohol with soda and tea. Poipet City deputy governor, Hoeun Virak has told EAC News that the workers came back from Thailand.

He says they prohibited them to bring alcoholic beverages such as beer inside the quarantine. So instead, the workers used the alcohol for sanitization available in the quarantine centre and mixed it with soda and tea on Thursday afternoon. Soon after drinking, the workers show poisoning symptoms. They were rushed to Poipet Referral Hospital and some to Siem Reap Provincial Hospital.

Banteay Meanchey’s Department of Health deputy director Roeun Sothy says that as of Friday morning, seven did not survive the poison from the alcohol. He also says that they are collecting samples of the drink for examination.
